VISA REQUIREMENTS FOR TOP DESTINATIONS

British citizens can visit more than 170 countries of the world without a visa – which is among the widest range of visa-free travel citizens of different nationalities enjoy in the world. But what about the major holiday destinations of the world – do they all offer visa free travel to Britons? Find out below!

India

Visa is required to enter India. With effect from 1st April 2017, the duration of stay on an e-visa has been extended from 30 days to 60 days with double entry on tourist and business e-visa and triple entry on medical e-visa. 'British citizens' holding a passport and meeting the required criteria can apply for a double entry e-tourist visa (e-TV) to visit India at designated airports.

Australia

Visa is a prerequisite to travel to Australia. British citizens can get two types of electronic visitor visa , e-Visitor visa direct from the department of Immigration and Border Protection and Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) from your travel agent or airline. You may be asked to provide evidence of funds to support your stay and return ticket at the time of arrival.

UAE

Visitor's Visa on arrival is available for British citizens. This visa allows the visitor to stay in the UAE for up to 30 days.

USA

Passport holders are eligible to get an Electronic Systems for Travel Authorization (ESTA) through the Visa Waiver Program, which allows travel to USA for up to 90 days. You generally qualify for VWP if your passport describes your nationality as a 'British Citizen'.

Thailand

British passport holders traveling to Thailand require no visa for up to 30 days. If you plan to stay for a longer duration, it's possible to extend your stay once, from the expiry date of the original visa, for up to 30 days.


Malaysia

British nationals do not require a visa to travel to Malaysia. Permission to stay for 3 months is given on arrival. A visa is required for prolonged stays or non-tourist purposes. For travelling between Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia, you will be required to carry your passport.

Singapore

For stays up to 30 days for tourism, business discussions or social visits in Singapore, no visa is required.

Maldives

A tourist visa for up to 30 days is available on arrival for British Nationals, provided you carry a valid onward or return ticket and enough funds to cover your holiday. Overstaying without proper authority is an offence.

Mauritius

No visa is required to Mauritius. On arrival, your passport will be stamped allowing you entry in the country for 60 days. Evidence of onward or return travel might be required.

Sri Lanka

A valid visa is required to enter Sri Lanka. A short stay visa can be availed online. Tourist visas are normally issued for a maximum period of 30 days. As per the FCO website, it's still possible to get a tourist visa on arrival, however it is recommended to get one before you travel.
